My experience and efforts focus on research infrastructure enhancement and research program development. From 1993 to 2010, I served as the founding Director of the Office of Research Development at the Medical University of South Carolina. In 2010 the MUSC College of Medicine established the annual Peggy Schachte Research Mentor Award in honor of my contributions to the research enterprise. I have collaboratively developed many successful Shared Instrumentation Grants, Research Facilities Grants and Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBREs). I also have made major contributions to numerous Research Training and Career Development Awards, Program Project Grants and Center Grants, and served as a lead strategist in developing the South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research Institute (SCTR). I continue to collaborate with university administration and faculty on special projects, especially in pursuit of NIH support for large multi-disciplinary projects.
